Mat-Su Learn and Inspire, LLC: Growing Life-Long Learners

Welcome to Mat-Su Learn and Inspire, where learning flourishes in a nurturing small group environment designed for children of similar ages. I'm Jessica Bertram, the founder of Mat-Su Learn and Inspire, and I'm thrilled to share a bit about myself and the inspiration behind this educational journey.

I am originally from Michigan where I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Valley State University in 2015. My passion for working with children has been a constant thread in my life, whether it was through nannying, tutoring, or volunteering. My journey led me to the public schools, where I taught 4th grade in Homer, Alaska, and served as a trusted substitute teacher and paraprofessional in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District for multiple years.

Despite my love for teaching, I discovered that the traditional classroom setting wasn't the perfect fit for me. I wanted an environment where I could engage with children on a more personal level, catering to their individual needs while fostering peer interaction. This desire to create a unique learning experience for children fueled the inception of Mat-Su Learn and Inspire.

At Mat-Su Learn and Inspire, I prioritize the power of small-group learning. I believe that children thrive when they are in an environment that not only meets their educational needs but also encourages collaboration with their peers. My mission is to inspire a love for learning, cultivate individual growth, and create a sense of community within small groups.

I am committed to providing a supportive and enriching educational experience, where children can explore their curiosity, build lasting friendships, and develop a strong foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Mother's Day Pinch Pot and Painted Pots

In this Mother’s Day STEAM class, students will be making pinch pots using air-dry clay and dried flowers. Additionally, students will paint four-inch terracotta pots. Each participant will have the opportunity to select a flower from a diverse array of options, including dahlias, nasturtiums, calendulas, and herbs. We will utilize seeds from a local Palmer Business, Seeds and Soil to cultivate the flowers. Students will be able to take their creations home for the special Mother figure in their life to cherish and enjoy.

Engineering a Maze

Engineering a Maze

Engage your students in a thrilling maze engineering and time trial competition featuring Hexbugs. Participants will design and construct mazes that challenge the agility and problem-solving skills of these tiny, tech-driven creatures.

Through this thrilling challenge, students will be encouraged to enhance their maze designs, optimize paths, and strategize ways to improve the Hexbugs' time trials with each attempt.
