Course Overview:
In this captivating science unit, students will explore how their bodies are designed and how the different systems work together to keep us healthy and strong. We’ll dive into the building blocks of a healthy lifestyle, from how our cells function to how we digest food, move, breathe, and fight off germs.
Topics Covered:
We’ll begin by exploring how the body is formed, laying the foundation for understanding the incredible systems that keep us alive and healthy.
Next, we’ll dive into the Digestive System, spread over two lessons, to see how our bodies break down food and absorb nutrients. Building on that, students will learn about The Basics of Nutrition, along with the important roles of Vitamins and Hydration in maintaining good health.
We’ll then move into the body’s "clean-up crew" by studying the Renal System, which filters waste and keeps our internal environment balanced.
From there, we’ll take a close look at the Circulatory System, learning first about the heart and how it pumps life-giving blood, then focusing on the blood itself and the vital substances it carries throughout the body.
Our exploration will continue with the Respiratory System, understanding how we breathe and how oxygen fuels our cells. Then we’ll focus on the body’s framework by studying the Skeletal System and Musculoskeletal System, seeing how our bones and muscles work together to support movement and strength.
We'll also cover the Integumentary System—our skin, hair, and nails—and why they are essential for protection and health.
In addition to learning how the body works, students will learn practical life skills through our lessons on Germs and Hygiene, understanding how to protect themselves and others from illness.
Finally, we’ll wrap up the course by exploring Genes and Unique Features, celebrating the fascinating ways each person is uniquely designed.
